  This material covers a variety of subject areas, illustrating many aspects of the development of Normanton from medieval times. These illustrations are largely from the 18th to 20th centuries, covering coal mining, stone quarrying, scythe-stone making, iron and engineering, brick making, farming, corn milling, railways, roads, trams and buses, population changes, ecclesiastical developments, cost of living (1905 detailed survey), education and the School Board, the poor, local landed estates, gas supply, electricity supply, water supply, inns, inventories of contents of houses, hospitals and many other subjects.
